Social Share Monday: Montessori Children's House

Once per week on Mondays, Gusto is going to allow a member of the non-profit community in Greater Des Moines to write about their organization.  We'll post that on our blog on Monday morning, then broadcast that info on our social media sites and give away a $10 gift card per week for anyone who re-tweets the message or shares the link on their facebook wall. The drawing will take place on Friday at 11am. Today we showcase MONTESSORI CHILDREN'S HOUSE.

Montessori Children’s House Providing the Best in Early Education

Montessori Children’s House (MCH) has served the children and families of the Des Moines area for over 40 years. Founded in the fall of 1968 by Dora and George Fowler, the school began with approximately 40 students and two classrooms. Today, the not-for-profit school has grown to over 200 students with 9 classrooms and 11 classes.

MCH is dedicated to providing a highquality, private education to children from 18-months-old to 7-years-old.  The MCH education is based on the teachings of Dr. Maria Montessori; instilling a desire for lifelong learning and developing respectful, responsible and selfreliant individuals.

“Daycare was never an option.” says MCH parent Jill Griesemer “I was looking for something where my children would be able to get an education starting at a young age that would prepare them for an environment when they went on to kindergarten and first grade.”

Montessori Children’s House is a non-profit corporation led by a Head Directress and a parentrun Board of Directors elected annually.  To accomplish their educational goals, MCH seeks to meet the social, physical, intellectual, linguistic and emotional needs of each child by providing an individualized, childdirected, handson learning experience.

“One thing that makes a Montessori education different is children can choose what they want to do,” says MCH teacher, Liz Brennan. “And a teacher’s job is to prepare the materials they need to learn with. Choice is a big focus of a Montessori education.”
